(On top of the final four consisting entirely of third party characters, both Sonic characters were in the final two, so one or the other was facing elimination. It ended up being Shadow.

Shadow is, like Sonic, a hedgehog. He debuted in Sonic Adventure 2 and has made numerous appearances since thanks to popularity among Sonic fans. He even has his own game, although it has a mixed reception.

Shadow is an assist trophy in all three Smash games since the assist trophys (and Sonics!) debut. He functions similarly to the timer item also introduced in Brawl. In Ultimate, hes joined by Knuckles, another well known Sonic character.
