You have some (Beto O'Rourke, for example) calling for the ban of certain types of firearm (AR-15). Very few outside of the extreme fringe are calling for an outright wholesale ban on firearms. Considering this, and addressing your point about "actual" give-and-take, where is the give from 2A defenders? They fight every regulation. Red Flag laws, background checks, etc. Even "mild" regulation is pushed back upon by the ardent defenders of 2A. There's no negotiation because those 2A defenders are opposed to even reasonable checks and balances. That's not a fringe stance, either.
