AI trade!

Buccaneers receive:
DE Mitch Freeman (89 overall, 27 years old)
DT Kenny Clark (81, 25)
LG Glenn Castle (88, 30)

Steelers receive:
RG Arie Kouandjio (83, 30)
HB Knile Davis (83, 29)
FS Trent Ford (80, 33)

Bucs will incur a $5.02 mil cap penalty to turn $8.06 mil in cap hits into $19.54 mil in cap hits

Steelers will incur a $3.86 mil cap penalty to turn $23.4 mil in cap hits into $5.85 mil in cap hits

The Bucs have outperformed their talent level the past two seasons and send out three modestly-rated starters out to get back more talented and younger players. Kouandjio is the real loss putting up a stellar 118 blocks vs 13 sacks allowed the past two seasons as an interior OL. Davis has four years left on his contract and would demand a trade as soon as he loses the preseason battle against recent #2 overall pick Alvin Kamara. Ford is likely in the final season of his career and was likely to be sent to the bench after the Bucs signed FS Colbert in RFA. Freeman and Clark give them much-needed talent and youth along an aging DL, although Freeman is a converted LB and has yet to deliver a quality season at DE. Castle is coming off of a rough season with 38 blocks against 10 sacks allowed, but he recorded 93 blocks against 11 sacks allowed the previous two seasons.

The Steelers' main draw was massive cap relief as they shared publicly that they would likely be unable to sign the UFAs that they wanted, not to mention signing a draft class and anybody from free agency. They did get some nice players in return though. Kouandjio's stats have been mentioned. Davis was a breakout candidate last season after recording over 1500 rushing yards on 4.3 YPC. Barring an injury to McCaffrey, Davis will not be back for a second season for the Steelers, but for $1.5 mil, you aren't going to find a better backup HB. Ford's last two seasons on a roster (S15 with Orcas, S17 with Bucs) saw him record a combined 128 tackles, 1 INT, 2 FFs, 3 FRs in 32 games, so he's an excellent choice for a backup.

The Steelers understood the trade parameters, the history of players involved, the financial impact, and what each team hoped to achieve.
