You can still play it offline since the game doesn't force an online connection, which I believe the mobile version does.

It's just that at the end of the month, they're cutting out the online Check-in functionality, which you need to do to restore the special stages if you ever change your 3DS system clock.

So if you do time-traveling in any game or you're someone that changes the clock for Daylight Savings, you'll be locked out from ever seeing the special stages again. All regular stages will still be there, so the is playable

They didn't even bother to put out an in-game announcement for that, news of it came from the official Japanese Pokemon web site.

On a separate note, I find it funny that now the only thing you can "buy" are 2 free themes. Like it actually pulls up the transaction screen when you go download it.
