Possums and skunks also get spooked and will run directly into the paths of cars. I've hit 3 deer in my life and each one I was going 45 or faster with no chance to react. They utterly destroy the front of cars too. This. The backroads on the way to my parents' house are extremely dark, curvy, and very busy.
