RULES
You have 20 individual nominations to use toward any 8th generation game.
There is currently no set amount of nominations needed to achieve placement in the bracket. Participation will be monitored and I will review the counts on Wednesday to determine what the amount should be set at.
There are currently 64 open spots in the bracket. This will not change.
As always, computer, arcade, and other types of games which don't specifically fit into generational identification are still eligible. Computer and arcade games released from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2020 are eligible.
Since we're at the point of some games being released on multiple generations of consoles at the same time (Most stuff released recently has not been exclusive to gen 9, for example), games which released simultaneously for generation 8 and generation 9 consoles are not eligible for nomination. There will be another current generation contest following this, so that's where these games can be nominated.
As well, Any games which may have been eligible for this bracket, but have already appeared in a prior contest, are not allowed. I don't think anything applies, but just being cautious.
Possibly an unpopular rule: Switch is being removed from this generation to be used for the next contest. I can give a thorough explanation if someone really wants one, but it just kinda makes the most sense based on the timing of everything, so allow me to change the canon of real life just a little bit here.
No compilations, side versions, or direct ports of prior gen games. All versions of Pokmon Sun and Moon are counting as the same even though Ultra Sun and Moon are technically better. And don't you dare nominate one of those lame-ass "remaster" collections of a bunch of Ubisoft 360 games.
Games released exclusively in Japan (or some other non-English country) can be nominated, though they are completely eligible to be nominated for future generations as well, so long as their first worldwide appearance was in that separate generation. This was thrown in just in case people wanted to nominate Ace Attorney two generations ago. I have no idea if anything from this gen fits into this.
No nomination changing after a game is locked into the bracket. This one won't come into effect until Wednesday, but I think it's kind of lame that we can take nominations away once they're set. You can still change your other nominations at any point, and you can put a nomination toward anything locked in for the sake of granting a higher seeding, we just can't be removing nominations from "safe" games.
Okay I think that's it. Most was copy and pasted so if you remember the rules from last time it's mostly the same. Nominations have gone mostly well but please don't be afraid to put nominations toward safe games. Helps me with the seeding so I don't have to manually seed and do guesswork. Gen 7 bracket felt like it suffered because half the bracket had the exact same amount of nominations, which led to me not really knowing where to seed things appropriately, so instead of taking accountability I am blaming all of you.
