From what I recall they skid when they stop unless you're going barely fast enough to stay upright. Even 20 years ago that wasn't actually a thing that happened unless you absolutely hammered the brakes, in which case you'd probably fly off of the bike. You would also see little skid marks everywhere if that were the case, especially in bike-heavy places, and you uh, you kind of don't.
