I got incredibly bored of Pokemon when I bought Gen 5 back when it came out. I was so excited too, but I was just burnt out on it. I started the find all the gameplay super slow, and agreed with a lot of the popular criticism of certain Pokemon designs. Probably got 1-2 badges and put it down. I did the same with X, which I found way worse, and then stopped buying. I guess that means I took a...8 year break or so? I started buying Pokemon games again a couple of years ago, mostly to experience Gen 5, as people online did really seem to love them. I really appreciate them as the final 2D games now.

The 3DS games, I look upon poorly. I'll still probably play through Omega Ruby and Ultra Sun since I have copies, but I'm not that thrilled.

Was less than impressed by coverage of Sword/Shield. Same with Shining Pearl/Brilliant Diamond.

Amidst all this, I still replay gen 1 + 2, and a little bit of 3 a fair bit in the past 5 years.

annnnd I got back in by buying Arceus and Violet. Arceus is overall awesome. Violet is a big shift, and janky as hell, but I've had a lot of fun with it.
