i dont remember if it was mentioned immediately or later but the normal route to get to the sky ocean has like a 50% guaranteed mortality rate so the safe way there would have ended with half the crew dead. the suicide way is the only way the entire crew can make it there safely but its an all or nothing. either the entire crew makes it to the sky or they all die

really enjoying this arc so far. i had typed up a bunch of reactions to certain scenes, but the post somehow got deleted when i was adding spoiler tags and i forgot what i wrote so i didn't type it up again. so many small moments that i lose my shit. this is probably the funniest anime i watched, while also somehow having some of the most serious plots i've seen. it's complex, yet simple at the same time.

but funniest shit is whenever luffy goes "huh" and his face and noise just always gets me. idk why. i watch sub, btw
