TopicDid Vergil actually think he wouldn't lose to Nero next time?

One thing DMC5 does is show us what would have happened if Vergil wasn't determined to cling to a shred of glory that faded almost two decades ago.
On the main menu after beating the game there's shots of all the characters in Nico's van doing who knows what. These take place in an alternate universe where Vergil isn't stuck in the demon realm having a never ending, go-nowhere slap fight with Dante.

It's got a shot of Vergil sitting with Nero while Nero examines one of his robot arms. Vergil has his head in his hand and occasionally looks like he want to try and say something, but he can't think of anything to say. He is stewing in the shame of being the literal DMC5 tutorial boss. It's in the last mission sure but it's still a simplistic fight the player's already beaten in mission 19 with a tutorial that guides the player to an even easier victory.
Vergil is obviously also afraid to say the wrong thing. He has no experience with small talk and he's probably already said the wrong thing multiple times.
Another thing about this shot is Kyrie might be in it. Kyrie is invisible in DMC5 and I really don't know why. The scene might depict Nero showing Kyrie a robot arm and Vergil trying to say something isn't a threat or insult that'll get him buster grabbed.

There's a shot of Dante trying to read and every few seconds Vergil does something to get his attention. Vergil is most likely making weird annoying noises. Dante is not laughing in this shot, he has a stern look of what is wrong with you? before going back to his magazine which probably isn't even interesting but is still far more enticing than the prospect of interacting with post-game DMC5 Vergil.

What's probably happening in this timeline is out of pity for Vergil, the rest of the cast have welcomed him into their team and have tried to find him a purpose. They don't need another fighter since Dante, Vergil, Nero and Trish all specialise in a different aspect of that. Nico handles driving place to place and developing new weaponry for them. The role Vergil is best suited for would be the team's internet tough guy. An old curmudgeon like him with a history of being standoffish and condescending, he'll nail this. While the other character formulate and execute plans to defeat demon hordes, Vergil will survey social media and aggressively engage anyone speaking ill of the team's efforts. He could also devil trigger to type faster and maybe open the post with (DEVIL TRIGGER ACTIVE) so they know they're on the backfoot right away.

This Vergil probably isn't allowed to stray too far from the van. He was isolated on Mallet Island as Nelo Angelo for way too long. Future shock and all that.
