TopicDid Vergil actually think he wouldn't lose to Nero next time?

Here's something nobody is willing to bring up.
As you know Vergil's retelling of DMC4 is completely ludicrous in every regard. Nothing makes sense and somehow he manages to commit to vehemently to his action packed rampage story that it becomes boring. I think there's a reason DMC4 Vergil's visit to Fortuna gets the furthest deviation from the truth.

First look at Nero's devil trigger. It's got giant wing claw things. Punching isn't something you'd typically associate with an avian creature so I'm more convinced they are claws than talons. It's also what they use for the game's logo, a giant V. Vergil's watermark which he embarrassingly decided to tack on to his son's devil trigger in a shallow attempt to insert himself into the spotlight. A spotlight he was already in for pretty much the full duration of the game.
Dante and Vergil's DTs are strange borderline lovecraftian demon humanoids. Nero's looks a bit like Nelo Angelo in terms of color scheme, but what matters here is that when all three of them revert from devil trigger, it all subsides. Not for Nero. When Nero reverts to his regular form, the giant claw wing things are still present. Why?
We can identify which aspects came from Vergil, but there's something else in there.

Look at V's talking animals. You have a blue talking bird that shoots blasts and melees people. You have a panther that is comparatively treated with far less importance. That's right. These OCs of his are unimaginative imitations of Falco Lombardi and Panther Caruso from the Star Fox series. Falco is the protagonist so hid imitation gets to talk and his presence in Super Smash Bros Melee allows Griffon in Vergil's mind to melee enemies and juggle them. Panther was a lesser character added in Star Fox Assault which of course gives Vergil less to work with.
Interesting how he's dead set on keeping Beowulf around huh? He could have pretended to somehow acquire Ifrit, he could have upgraded to Gilgamesh in 4 but no, there's just something about a link between his limb apparel and the word wolf that makes it all click for him.

You see the picture coming together.
In his DMC4 opening cutscene, a woman in red stops and takes note of him. That's all you'll really hear about her. Was she real? Did he make her up as a cover story? Is his idea of a cover story a single sentence saying "Oh yeah there was this red dress woman yeah she was real." or could he just not think of a single other detail?
The final boss theme is more about Nero than Vergil and it's called Silver Bullet, so while it's too late to redeem Vergil, we are afforded a single bleak opportunity to mitigate some of his shame.
You know things have become dire when the best case scenario is now to try and argue that Nero's mother was a werewolf, because as the other points have come together and conclusively determined, Vergil is a furry.
On one hand you could suggest Nero's mother hid her condition from Vergil. On the other, showing affection of any kind is such a deviation of character for Vergil that there's just no way he didn't know.

You have to wonder if Mundus was concerned about Vergil and was actually trying to help him by giving him fancy armor and a sense of duty.
