You are probably thinking about times you saw Vergil, the girl he futilely tries to impress Morrigan and the local tough guy Dr Footdive absolutely destroy some hapless trio and wondering why I would say this.
Well here's the thing, Morrigan typically spends the most time in harm's way, navigating the most precarious situations. Dr Doom basically invented winning and holds the team together with his missiles, his molecular shields, plasma beams, finger lasers and the best dive kick in the world. Vergil only waits in the back until he's absolutely needed and then hopes desperately that X Factor will carry him. Without Morrigan and Doom to play the game for him, Vergil would most likely end up stuck in Rocket Raccoon's net trap with a Servbot mask stuck over his head and Haggar's pipe wrapped around his torso.

What is X Factor though? X Factor appears to be a speed and power boost. It's a devil trigger on top of a devil trigger. Vergil already tried that, he had SDT and it didn't work out for him at all.
You know speed boosts or rather the perception of being faster is something that crops up from time to time with Vergil.
First you've got him relying on X Factor in UMVC3. From his perception everyone else is probably moving in slow motion. This could be like a time slow power from his perspective.
Then in DMC5 you have Urizen using time slow orbs as an attack. And he even brings back Geryon to help him do the same. DMC5 Vergil also gives himself a move where he slashes air and slows down time. He gives himself the ability to spam this.

On a grander scale, DMC5 is basically Vergil: The Game. They write V instead of a 5 a lot, there's 3 Vergils running around this thing, he instigates the events. You know what else though? The game has bad load times and it launched with DRM that could affect performance. More time slow abilities helping prevent people from reaching the end of his game and defeating him.
This game gives Vergil x factor on top of time slow power on top of devil trigger on top of super devil trigger on top of billing as two playable characters, the main villain and the final boss all at once and he still can't stick the landing.

It's apparent that Vergil is pretty much a common lag switcher. That would indeed explain how a de-powered, feeble Vergil was able to take Nero's arm so quickly, it'd explain how he's able to bend time, logic and space to get the last hit on Dante. Another new low, even some of the feats you see him perform with your own eyes are illegitimate.

And 5 bars would have meant something back when the summoned swords were a threat and the DT healed a lot. Now the only 5 bars he's thinking about are candy bars on the shopping list Nero sends him to the store with.
