TopicDid Vergil actually think he wouldn't lose to Nero next time?

We gotta talk about Urizen's social circle. He doesn't draw as much immediate attention as V and his Looney Tunes characters but he's not much better off.

Up front you'd be confused, Urizen's supposed to be a guy who cares about nobody and nothing except the senseless accumulation of power. All he cares about is power and he barely explains why. If the game was made a few years later Urizen would be talking about power being the future and how Dante just isn't smart enough to understand it like it's a pitch for his new pyramid scheme. Despite saying this, Urizen's actions constantly show signs of self-inflicted loneliness stemming from his refusal to be accepting of others.

One of the first things Urizen does in this game is kidnap Lady and Trish, dress them up in the kind of dumb costumes he'd wear and force them to be his friends. That's a pretty desperate cry for help right away, he has so little charisma that he has to resort to creating Faced Mechon in an attempt to imitate having friends.
And that's me giving Urizen the benefit of the doubt. Who's to say he didn't take one look at Lady, see the resemblance to Arkham and have a tantrum after remembering how Arkham tricked him and then take it out on her? What's the worst thing Trish did to Urizen? Resemble his mother? And this is his response? Shameful stuff.

His interactions with Malphas are pretty telling too. Oh hold on, what interactions? Malphas is basically the only character in the game to be amicable and benevolent toward Urizen. No caveats, no beating him senseless first like Nero, no beating him up then only being nice to him after accepting he's beyond help like Dante.
Urizen is never seen engaging her in conversation, instead she's left to try and work out how to foster their friendship on her own. V straight up ghosts her, he sees her, he hides from her, he cowers from her. Not nice. Vergil even takes it upon himself to insert a scene in which he cold bloodedly kills her in his DMC5 retelling.

Why? It might be something to do with Vergil's views on genders, it might be a class thing. Just because Malphas is a humble chicken farmer doesn't mean Urizen/V/Vergil should be acting so coldly toward her. She has the power to create portals, he could literally learn some alternate portal magic from her and agree to give Nero's arm back but his ego won't let him consider de-escalating things. She has literal resurrection spells and somehow Urizen's still infinitely more interested in his Exdeath cosplay than trying to work though his issues and move forward.

Oh and Nero's mother? Never willingly appeared again. That relationship must have been great.
