And after a certain salary threshold it's no longer a rat race for me. Work not being a source of stress in your life is a super underrated benefit, definitely worth making ~70-90% of what my friends in the private sector make. Coincidentally, I'm the only one in that friend group that hasn't hopped jobs every 2 years or has had a panic attack over work.
