I'm seeing Three Houses comparisons specifically as the absolute sticking point for the lower ones. Based on pure sales numbers, it's clear that for a lot of people Three Houses was not only their first FE, but their ONLY FE, and they see 3H as the end all be all. "Fire Emblem wasn't worth playing until this one, and the games need to be like this moving forward".

I loved Three Houses to death, still one of my favorite games, but it can be so much more than that. It's also clear that the forced Monestary integration was a turn off to a lot of longtime fans, and they couldn't keep forcing such an aspect into all future games. It's not something I would PERSONALLY mind of course, I loved the Monestary, but I'm wierd.

That said, it's still mostly very strong reviews, so it's kind of a moot point.
