I quite liked it. Beautifully detailed and expansive world; gorgeous soundtrack; I actually quite liked the combat, and wish Gambits / customizable algorithms were more common with AI companions; and Balthier remains one of my favorite characters in the franchise.

But for reference, FF X was the last game in the series that I genuinely loved, and it's hard to deny that FF XII was the beginning of the end. XII just didn't have any heart in its story. And speaking as someone who generally struggles to fathom the burning hatred others have for well-known annoying video game characters (Tidus, Fargoth, The Adoring Fan, Nazeem, even Penelo), I genuinely hate Vaan on several levels.
