If Republicans really cared about having ID for all voters, they'd make state ID's / driver licenses free in their states. But they don't, because "voter ID" is just a smokescreen for trying to keep poor people from being able to vote. Poll taxes are illegal, as the courts have established repeatedly. In a hypothetical scenario where everyone has free and accessible ID's available, requiring ID would be fine.
