Raetsel_Lapin 12/07/22 7:19:52 AM #200: | And two more for now. May or may not try to get in another five later, it depends on how some things play out this morning. ========================================= #620: Whitechapel - A Bloodsoaked Symphony (4:58): https://youtu.be/4I9pSv9w36A Nominator: BlackDra90n [22/30 Remaining] Initial Score: 50.057 Revised Score: 50.12 Final Score: 55.26 (First Reaction: There is an interesting story being told here, but this is in the "so intense I kinda start to fall asleep" category that a lot of very intense songs tend to fall into.) The lyrics are great: I set my soul ablaze, I crawled through the nether and left a suicide letter next to my own severed head I wanted bleak and depressing, and this song gives it in spades. I just really prefer my sad lyrics to be delivered in a more...sad way. This is metalcore angry yelling, which can convey pain but I find they don't allow me to really get into the right headspace. This sort of voice can go for angry or demonic songs, but I'm not a fan of them with these lyrics or this sort of story. The instrumentation is tense and foreboding, so that's another strong point for the song. It's close to greatness and I know it's stupid for "my problem with this metalcore song is that the singer is too metalcore" to be my only real argument against it, but... if I can't really get into the vocal performance, then I can't get into it. I'm sorry. [Final Thoughts: The singer has a deep, powerful, angry voice which would be fantastic on the right song--I'm just not super fond of the combination of this voice with these lyrics. Still great lyrics and I generally like what the singer & band are doing, I'll also praise the drums for being in the "too intense for me, but done in a way that I actually don't mind"--the singer's ability to completely overpower the drumming actually lets the drums properly accentuate the song instead of drowning it out. A very well made song that I kinda like.] ========================================= -it's only forever- ======================== #619: Serj Tankian - Ching Chime (4:05): https://open.spotify.com/track/45gxkZ78jargpM0pf4nJwr?si=66096f1540ff4992 Nominator: Murphiroth [20*/32 Remaining] Initial Score: 55.37 Revised Score: 58.34 Final Score: 55.37 (First Reaction: I quite dislike the verses, but the choruses & post choruses are fairly good. The way the song rather argues with itself, with the pressimistic verses & the opimistic counterpoints from the chorus, also lends the song an air of dissociation or fighting with ones' self, which appeals to me quite a bit. Unfortunately, there's basically nothing in the verses for me to connect with or take an interest in: Sucking seeds is pastime, gonorrhea overtime ...Like I'm not going to say I hate it or anything (outside of any the ching chime parts because I just hate repetition and rhyming ching chime with ching chime is about as repetitive as it gets), but... at best, I'm indifferent to these parts. So while there's a lot to love here in the concept, and the way the song switches between two different musical styles between the verses & choruses, it rather misses the mark for me.) !Definitely a memorable song. I honestly find it hard to remember a lot of the songs that I've only heard once, but as soon as it was time to listen to this song again, I was like "oh yeah... this song", which is probably worth something. And the choruses are still pretty great. [Final Thoughts: Moving this back down to its Initial Score because I really do not like the verses, but the choruses are fantastic enough that I do kinda like it.] ======================== --- "Toothpaste is real and I hate everything in the world now."-MrCactuar ...
