#182:

I may be busy on Wednesday, so we'll see what happens that day. Could be a day off, a half-day, or I could wind up with more time than expected & post a full day's worth of songs anyway. Not going to know which until then. For now, I should be able to get in the full ten songs today and tomorrow, so let's just start with the first three songs above the Wall:

============================

#644: Yelle - Safari Disco Club (3:35):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6Pyvm-80hE&list=PLR2ATVrSGTX91hJXNoWIHovzSIqVNBM8u&index=1

Nominator: hotdogturtle [10/14 Remaining]

Initial Score: 49.92
Revised Score: 50.00
Final Score: 51.90001 [Upgraded to 52.31] [Upgraded to 55.00000001]

(First Reaction: I want to like this since it has French lyrics & I can have my fun pretending this song is about literal animals dancing at a club [I'm sure this probably has some metaphor I'm not grasping, but it'd hardly be the first time I chose to be willfully ignorant in order to have more fun with a song], but it's a bit on the repetitive on the side and doesn't really grip me. It's certainly listenable and I wouldn't object to it, but it's a bit below average in my tastes.)

Ehhh... "so adequate that it's rather average" is the sentence that immediately comes to mind. It's just so very, very adequate. It resembles a dance track, but so quiet and scaled back that I have no complaint about it. The choruses only repeat the line "Les animaux dansent dans le Safari Disco Club", but the song is so short that the lyric only appears a total of 8 times & it ends before the repetition can become annoying. The second verse is almost pleasingly dark with its references to sin and poisoned apples, but it doesn't really go far enough for me to get into it... it's fine. I can neither like, nor dislike it, vanishing into the pile of exactly 50 point songs. While it has its share of pros and cons, all of them are so minor that they either cancel each other out perfectly or are not worth the effort of discussing in the first place. It could probably serve as the defining example of a 50 point song.

[Final Thoughts: Ehhh..... imagining animals disco dancing is kinda fun. Enough that I want to give this an extra point for novelty value, whether that's the intended image or not.]

[Later: Standard "stuck in my head, bump up to the next tier" message goes here.]

[Final Later: This song has grown on me quite a bit from the earlier impressions with its chorus being surprisingly enjoyable and memorable Also, while it doesn't mean anything, that score is the most zeroes I can add to a song's score and still fit them onto the spreadsheet's cells.... I suppose I could expand the cells if I really wanted to, but I think this is enough decimal places.]

============================

-we find in favor of BIG AMERICAN PARTY! Yay! Everybody disco dancing! Lots of fun, good time for all!-

*continued with two songs in the next post; not enough room for all three writeups and the next two come from the same nominator, so I'd like both of them in the same post.*
