I'd agree with two of those. But Laguna's barely a character and Quistis is tied too hard to the worst parts of the plot for me to love her as much as she deserves. Definitely not enough to counteract literally everything else about the game.

As for the soundtrack, I find it to be one of the most bland and forgettable from that era. Even the midi soundtracks from IV and VI are way better and more memorable. IX and X are definitely better.

VIII feels like the first FF game where they realized they could really take advantage of the audio aspects of putting a game on a CD, and then proceeded to not take advantage of that in any meaningful way because they didn't really know what they were doing yet. They got way better at it with later games, but it leaves VIII mostly dull and plodding.

Which is how I'd describe nearly every other facet of the game, honestly.
