19. The Boy (Netflix)

I do not care for The Boy.

The Boy is about a girl who is brought to a mansion to be the caretaker for a doll while its "parents" are on vacation. However the doll seems to be moving when she isn't looking.

This movie is so boring. Nothing happens. Literally nothing happens the whole time and it slays me. And then when stuff happens it's not particularly chilling or interesting. Because it's just a fucking doll that moves around when nobody is looking. I just don't know how they made an entire feature length film out of this because it's so rough to sit through.

I don't actually have a lot to say. I watched this because I wanted to see what in the world they do with the second film since it's on Netflix too and I feel like I need to refresh on THE LORE to get the full cinematic experience.

So instead of talking about the movie more, I'm going to talk about the climax of the film and my experience seeing it when it first came out:

When the doll is destroyed, there's a bunch of weird rumblings like the house is going to collapse. Real supernatural shit. I was kind of interested in what the big reveal would be. And then the mirror shatters and this grown ass man with a doll face popped out and I swear for the entire time that he was beating down the random abusive boyfriend, I was more confused than I've ever been. It should have been obvious it was just a fella in the walls, but I would have sworn to you it was a demon, or some kind of weird ghost of the doll, or anything other than a fella. It took me until they started to run away and mentioned that he was in the walls that I picked it up. I don't know why it took me so long.

Anyway, you don't need to watch The Boy. I give it some points for I guess a couple mildly creepy parts and the intrigue I felt wanting to see the reveal. But aside from that, it's a largely awful film.
