11. Spell (Amazon Prime)

Spell is a pretty awesome black horror I've been meaning to watch. Definitely as good as I expected it to be!

It's about a father who takes his family to go to his dad's funeral in a private plane. It gets brought down in a storm and when he wakes up, he's in the attic of an elderly couple with injuries. But things get spooky when they don't allow him to leave.

Omari Hardwick is our protagonist here and he does an outstanding job. It almost feels like his talents are almost wasted on a movie like this, but he's just positively compelling and makes you really feel for him. The rest of the cast is outstanding too and the old couple are completely menacing despite seeming unassuming.

There's plenty of visually disturbing things to see, and chilling moments that help tie the whole movie together with its compelling narrative. It gets very tense many times and the conclusion of it all feels extremely satisfying. I loved how it closed off everything, and it was all a great treat to watch unfold.

Spell is great though, and it does a great take on voodoo magic. Recommend this one here if you're looking for something magic with a strong story.

Rating: 8/10
