5. Annabelle (HBO Max)

Can you believe that HBO Max has the ENTIRE Annabelle franchise of movies!? I can watch this all in it's entirety this month! Maybe, because this movie isn't very good.

Annabelle is about a pregnant mother who gets a creepy doll that is possessed, and then after she has her baby, the awful stuff happening to her escalates when her baby is involved.

This is literally a movie where they came up with the scene where Annabelle stands up on its own, and then starts floating in the air, and it's really cool. And then they went "FUCK! We need to make a whole movie out of this still." And then you get the rest of this movie.

It isn't very good, but it's shot pretty well and has maybe two cool scenes, and the soundtrack is great. Those are the good things out of the way.

The rest of this movie is just random nonsense that actually makes no sense in a cohesive story of things. Just... stuff freaking happens. It's a mess. It's just what you get when you are just trying to make creepy stuff happen to serve a movie. By the end of the film, I don't actually understand how this creepy demon works at all still. It just arbitrarily does physical stuff, but also doesn't seem like it can do all physical stuff? It can make baby disappear, but also doesn't just do it early on when they're very clearly being haunted? It can somehow mess with radiowaves and stop phone calls from being heard?

There is a silver lining to this, at least, because Annabelle is easily the worst of the three films based on this creepy doll. This just has very little but some brief moments of actually pretty good stuff. Not worth it unless you're some kind of Conjuring Cinematic Universe completionist.
