You start with one poke, get shit and if you wipe or finish the run, you start back from just your starter but can buy stuff that carries on to the rest of your playthroughs. Lots of quality of life features, stuff up to gen 8 despite using FireRed as the base rom, etc. Crazy how ambitious rom hackers are these days --- Did anything ever really count Or was I just a two year practice round? ...
