Steelers receive:

Cowboys will incur a $400k-ish cap penalty to turn $2.62-ish mil in cap hits into $6.66 mil in cap hits

Steelers will incur a $1.13 mil cap penalty to turn $7.79 mil in cap hits into $2.42 mil in cap hits

The Cowboys lose their solid rotational DT who was probably always going to be blocked in Dallas plus nearly triple the cap hits for a chance at a long-term starting FS as Jackson will presumably battle with incumbent Shelton Kelly for the job.

The Steelers were looking to get rid of Jackson's $5+ mil cap hit and were able to improve their DT depth and get closer to positive cap territory in the process.

"Both" parties understood the trade paramters, financial impact, histories of past players, and what each team hoped to achieve. This trade is now official.
