Updates for Survivor SA (eps 18/19)...

Tejan's fake idol bluff was terrible. Even I was like "Come on, Tejan, you can sell it better than that!" His "not playing it" was pretty amazing though. And then he got voted out because Phil wanted to flush the idol... or, rather, protect Flex. Poor Tejan, though, not being able to improve upon his prior placement. The guy feels cursed, like a tragic hero.

Phil acting shifty the entire episode 19 is... not good for him. I fully anticipate this will blow up in his face, but he's shown to be a challenge beast and he has an idol that everybody knows about. Easy plan is to split the vote 2-2-2 between Phil and Flex. If Phil plays the idol, it will be for himself 80% of the time, but if he gets paranoid that it's 4-2... you don't want that. Phil has that healthy paranoia and is clearly a lethal player, so I expect him to be voted out soon. They can't let him make the end, and he can't recover from changing his vote at Tribal AGAIN. I'm still mad about the Shona thing, which makes zero sense still. If he'd spared Shona, he'd have had another vote to use at his disposal for a good while.

Super nice of them to give Dino and his fiancee a honeymoon. Dino's plan should be to just be honest: "I got this bowl of fruit and an extra vote. Here's the parchment." The fruit is there. The parchment is there. This would completely defuse the situation. If they feel like there's something he's not telling them, well... there is, but they can only speculate. They would NEVER expect it to be an R18,000 honeymoon. And that doesn't matter. It was certainly worth the going unfed for 12 days - though apparently his girl's a lawyer, so I'd presume she makes good money even in South Africa.

Still weird that these episodes don't end with a Tribal or with any finality, but I love how we're getting extra time. I wish all seasons could be set up like this one. The idea of 24 hour-long episodes for 20 castaways allows for more camp life scenes and more coherent strategy, and it helps that they've combined several immunity and reward challenges.

Winner-wise, Killarney is completely useless and has been bussed by editors several times. She ain't winning unless they've obfuscated something that the rest of the F6 didn't even see. I don't see anyone she wins against here. Dino won the car so he's not winning because of the Car Curse, unless he sits next to Killarney.
A juror asks "Killarney, what's one move that you can say was yours?"
She says "The Meryl vote."
*everybody laughs*
Dino says "Killarney... that move was in the works 18 hours before you proposed it. I was involved in starting it. Your suggestion was after, so no, it wasn't your move, not even in the slightest."
Killarney asks "Are you sure? Because I initiated it."
"You initiated it AFTER it was already happening. Did you even think for a second why people weren't threatened by you after that? Because I let you think that was your move when everybody else knew it wasn't."
Boom, Dino wins. That humiliation is enough for the jury to be like "Yeah... Killarney isn't the one I want being the winner of my season." Most unfortunate is that the only dud in this cast has made it this deep. Was she an alternate for someone who dropped? I still can't fathom why they cast her.
