Romney and Cheney are Republicans in the sense that they hold Conservative beliefs, and largely oppose Democrats because Democratic beliefs are antithetical to what they want.

The MAGA Republicans who seem to have taken over the party are the reverse. They hate Democrats (namely how Democrats want to empower people outside of straight, white, cisgender, Christian men), and support conservative policy because that goes against Democratic beliefs.

Both sides ultimately have the same goals, its just a difference in the spite level.

Yang just seems like an out-of-touch tech bro who isnt really party-aligned, and only joined the Democratic primary because its the only option if you agree with Dems on ANYTHING.

Tulsi is very much a Republican who masqueraded as a Dem to get elected in blue Hawaii, and used that status to sandbag the Dems in 2016 and 2020.
