For some reason you think there should have been 200 Batman movies by now
The first theatrical James Bond film was in 1962. The first Batman movie was in 1966. Why are there 25 canon Bond movies but only somewhere between 9 and 12 Batman movies? Why does Bond have only two official continuities and Batman has... four or five? Maybe more?

My thought of James Bond wasn't driven by the "superhero" mindset as much as the other comparisons, namely:
  1. The timeframe being similar
  2. The rogues' gallery allowing for many films to be made
  3. The overlap of appeal with the character's complexities and dark backstory
  4. The iconic status of each character (both are instantly recognizable)
  5. Both starting in paper media - comics for one in 1940ish, books for the other in 1953
  6. The tonal parallels between eras - note how the Burton movies combined dark overtones with comedy akin to the Dalton Bond (and Die Hard), the Schumacher films were sillier like the Brosnan Bond, while the Nolan ones matched the hard-edged nature of the Daniel Craig Bond.
It's natural to compare the two, especially if you add in Q Branch and the Bat-gadgets for even further comparisons. There's similar-ish audiences between the two. Batman should be larger in film and, in a parallel universe, might be as successful of a movie IP as Bond. It's weird that it's not.
