I feel like Popeye is one of the stereotypical "old cartoons" that most people know about as being a thing from before their time, but I don't know if they would be willing to watch a straight-played, full length movie in the current century. Absolutely not, that's why it was canned. But it's also looking at it wrong, this was a niche pet project for huge animation fans made by an industry great. Weirdly enough this concept is a couple years ahead of its time. This probably would have worked way better now in the streaming wars era, now that millennials who grew up with Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack are the Marketable Demographic, and CG animation is getting more ambitious with projects like Spider-Verse, Arkane, Mitchels vs Machines, and Pixar's recent stuff (minus Lightyear). Conceptually anyways. I haven't been able to watch it yet, hopefully I can find it somewhere else... --- I definitely did not forget to put the 2020 GOTD Guru winner, azuarc in my sig! ...
