| FoolFantastic 07/23/22 12:54:29 PM #31: | I feel like my preference within metal leans entirely toward the atmospheric - this album comes at it from the opposite angle and I really struggled to get through it. It's hard for me to read this type of metal as anything more than technical grandstanding - that it's trying to impress through technique without really aspiring toward anything on an emotional level. There's a certain Coolness Factor to metal that has never clicked with me. What I do like from metal comes from its harshness, but mainstream metal like this almost never pushes hard enough to leave a lasting impact on me.
