#48: Rex the Wonder Dog
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/2/1/AAOJ0pAADYwN.png
Rex is a good boy. A very good boy. A very old good boy. Dogs living past a decade and a half is a sign of a good, long life.

Rex was in World War II. It is 2008. He is a very, very, very old good boy, thanks to the Fountain of Youth.

Rex's long life ties into everything he does. He's a legitimate doctor on his own, he's a world-traveled hero. He knows he'll outlive those around him, leading him to accept adopting a sparkplug pup. He steals lines from Captain America, because he can.

He's also just a dog who wants his boy. And with the Fountain of Youth poisoned, his boy, Danny, de-aged to the point of being a mere floating egg.

So Rex attached himself to Spirit, serving as a bit of a mentor in the non-medical ways of being a doctor, kind bedside manner.

But the Fountain of Youth being poisoned, along with a bullet wound, has recently begun taking its toll on Rex, and he is starting to feel every one of those extra days. He's slow, he's in pain. He's too tired to be a doctor anymore.

Rex is dealing with the very real possibility that he could die, and that's difficult for other characters to accept. Deaths in this campaign are usually quick and shocking, but if Rex passes, it's going to be slow and agonizing.

Rex is such a good boy. I hope we succeed at helping him.

Hint for 47: This character has a permanent injury.

Not a stinky alien. :(
