That's something only someone as respected as Kendrick can pull off. He basically made songs that would seperate people who care about him enough to not want to tear him down for not being politically correct. I imagine when you're that big, you find yourself questioning if people actually love you or just love what you provide them. One of the hooks is literally him asking if people are actually happy for him. Cluing you in that he gets insecure that the love he's being shown might be conditional and that people don't actually care about him as a person. He wants to seperate the people who actually love him with his album, so he can attempt to figure that out. I don't think people fully understand the mindfuck that fame is.
