Mega Man V is the best of these and is a good game, and even moreso a unique game that's not mostly a remix of levels of the NES, but it's still probably not on as good as any of 2-6. The Wily levels aren't very good, although some of the end game bosses were neat. The game particularly seemed to like forcing you to drop screens vertically onto places with spikes below (to an unusual degree even for Mega Man) - and the Game Boy's smaller resolution was particularly not well suited for this.

This is a fair assessment of MMV. The Wily levels were indeed underwhelming (although, honestly, I tend to hate the Wily gauntlet, so this didn't bother me much).

I disagree with you on MMV not being as good as 2-6. V shits all over 6, and I would take it over 5 as well. The Mega Arm gives MMV an identity. 1 introduced the concept, 2 greatly improved the concept, 3 introduced the slide, 4 introduced the charge shot, and then 5 & 6 played it safe. I love that MMV took risks, and for me, that elevates the game above most of the original series.
