I love the added flair and style of DBZ, but the arcs also tend to last longer than needed (other than probably the Saiyan arc and perhaps the Cell arc). Dragon Ball has a couple of dud arcs early on, but it's basically the opposite of DBZ in that it starts slow and finishes strong.
