There's an over reliance on sampling imo. The most iconic/memorable part of many modern pop songs are the bits that were taken from older, better songs.

It's not good that the only reason I know who Jack Harlow is is because that Fergie song is stuck in my brain.

Also, lack of instruments and stuff. When's the last time there has been an actual memorable guitar riff in a popular song?

Obviously I'm speaking broadly about pop music. If you dig into the weeds you can always find interesting music from any era.
