I can't resonate with modern rap in the same way that I did years ago because lyricism doesn't seem to be as appreciated as it was years ago. The emphasis / focus nowadays seems to be on weak lyricism, choppy flows and regurgitated beats. As for the current state of music? I keep an open mind, there's a bunch of stuff I like spanning a wide range of genres. I recently started listening to Remi Wolf and I dig her stuff. When it comes to UK grime / rap, I prefer listening to older stuff. Some new stuff is decent, but I prefer older tracks. English Frank is still one of my favourite artists to this day. It's not good that the only reason I know who Jack Harlow is is because that Fergie song is stuck in my brain. Also, lack of instruments and stuff. When's the last time there has been an actual memorable guitar riff in a popular song? Obviously I'm speaking broadly about pop music.
