Reasons people could major in Philosophy that's not directly to find a job:
- already has a job and/or financially independent, doing it for self-fulfillment
- second/double major, often supplements a first major like pre-law or psychology
- interested in engaging in philosophy-related research to advance our collective knowledge
- meeting the undergrad requirement for a master's or doctorate program that accepts any completed undergrad major (and happens to love philosophy so it's a win/win)
- used as professional development to enhance critical thinking skills, analytical skills, research skills, and argumentative skills (due to the way the subject is taught)
- in a philosophy graduate program (the vast majority of doctoral programs are PhDs, or Doctorates in Philosophy), which employs most researchers and professors
