I don't think governments should keep any secrets from the public (at least long term, I understand sometimes they need to keep covert military shit a secret while it's going down), we have a right to know what's going on with our lives

We largely live in a post secret world, the problem is there is so much information, you can tell people the truth and it will only have minimal effect proportional to the people that it reaches. For most people they have nothing but to shrug their shoulders and keep living, and those with actual power to do things have their own agenda that may not necessarily involve what is best for the commonwealth.
