Rogue One is a fantastic film. It possesses a lot of the tone one would expect from the Expanded Universe and it presents a very interesting, unique tone that, while different from the general atmosphere of Star Wars, works really well. I'm always fascinated by the characters in the muck and the grime of the Star Wars universe, and it I thought it had a pretty unflinching portrayal of the hopelessness of the Rebellion. That worked really well in juxtaposition to A New Hope and the bright future it ultimately alludes to at the end. The sacrifice of the cast in Rogue One really reminds of those classic World War II films, the sort of Bridge Too Far or Saving Private Ryan films which honestly jibe really well with the Star Wars universe.

Solo starts at a breakneck pace, and I think it would have done well to be the miniseries format instead (usually, I think they pad those minis out far too much, but this is rare situation where they needed more time). The cast was pretty strong, and it's too bad characters like Val and L3-37 didn't get quite enough time to stretch their legs. But I enjoyed it. It's a romp, it's amusing in a lot of ways. Just very compressed.
