We don't have those in Canada.

Toronto and Montreal both have pretty decent public transport (at least, decent enough that you can often rely on it instead of needing a car to get everywhere), but by and large, Canada does indeed fall prey to the same city planning issues that plague the US in that cities are overwhelmingly designed around the assumption that people have cars (namely suburban sprawl with inadequate transit support).

Before heading to Canada just be aware that gas prices are PER LITRE not gallon.

I was so ready to move until I found that out.

A Canadian dollar is also ~0.75 USD, which offsets some of the difference. Gas is still generally more expensive here than in the states, but $2/L is about $5.83/gal, not the ~$7.80 you might think on the first pass.
