When the Dems had 59-60 seats back in 2009 there were a lot more Manchins in the party. A lot. And worse than Manchin by far. I envy those who weren't plugged into politics in the era of Lieberman. As depressing as it is to think, the Democratic Party of 2022 is almost without doubt the most progressive it has ever been in terms of its elected national membership.

I don't know where the magic number lies for abolishing the filibuster. I'm not convinced it's 52 though that is the floor. I do think it's less than the 60 that would make it irrelevant though. Probably at 54-55 I think they'd have the votes.

But we'll probably never get there ever again because the Senate is literally a fucked up gerrymander of the US as a whole.
