Dr. Gerald Robotnik
First Appearance: Sonic Adventure 2

Man, this guy is actually legit if you just see him in Sonic Adventure 2. Otherwise... it gets messy.

He's an old ass looking Dr. Eggman. I don't need to describe his appearance any more, but it works for what it is. Could do to make him stand out a bit more maybe.

In Sonic Adventure 2, he's the grandfather of Dr. Eggman and his inspiration to be a great scientist, but he's dead by this point. We get told his story through flashbacks and other information, but essentially he created a giant space colony who wanted to figure out how to make people immortal because his granddaughter, Maria, was sick with a fatal disease. He made the Ultimate Life Form... and then it wasn't really the Ultimate Life Form, because he made a new one called Shadow the Hedgehog!

The government said that Shadow was too much of a threat to mankind and decided to arrest Gerald as he tried to send Maria and Shadow away, but Maria got gunned down and Shadow was captured and placed in suspended animation. Gerald saw his granddaughter was killed and lost it and wanted revenge, so he came up with a big ol' plan to have his space colony plummet to the Earth to destroy it, and manipulating Shadow into doing that when he was woken up again. Then he left a message to say fuck the world and was promptly executed.

It's considered a twist by the end of the game that Gerald was really this evil and manipulative, and it's actually done well. I really liked that part where we realize the shit that goes down, and the video he has condemning the world is a major scene.

But then Shadow the Hedgehog happens and... fuck, this is a meeeeeess. So he called upon literal aliens to help make Shadow and enlisted a mother fucker named BLACK DOOM to help him save humanity and his daughter on the promise that Shadow would give him the seven chaos emeralds in 50 years. But in actuality, he made sure that Shadow would actually be the one to STOP Black Doom instead and tried to tell the government that no we need Shadow to stop these spooky aliens in 50 years. And then he left a video that the Chaotix played from Gerald Robotnik says all that he made the Eclipse Canon that blew up the moon to actually blow up Black Doom's comet.

And then he's celebrated like some kind of hero for it when HELLO! HE ALMOST DESTROYED EARTH! THAT WAS BECAUSE OF HIM! Just because his goofy ass cannon destroyed Black Arms and he was meaning to do the right thing doesn't mean that he is in any way a good person in the end! He almost condemned the Earth--twice!

Oh and I guess he made Emerl too idk.

But yeah, the character is good and nuanced but becomes a lot less so with Shadow the Hedgehog factored into it. As a tragic villain, he is good. He's a great part of Shadow's backstory in SA2. But it's just messy as hell with Shadow the Hedgehog's story factored in and it makes him less impactful as a result. But he's got a ton of good about him too.
