This is an absurdly stupid thing to be upset about on either side of the argument. As a teacher in the classroom it will never come up or be an issue. When you talk with a student, you use their name, you don't use a pronoun. Even if you don't use their name, you us a second-person pronoun like 'you'. Third person pronouns are never used when the subject is there.
