This one is actually a bit more challenging to do because there's not one appearance to judge by. So uh, I just kind of have to just make due otherwise.

Rookie can be your very own OC where you customize a lot about them. Surprisingly, there's a pretty good amount of options here. Got to give Sega credit for that at least.

But it's a silent protagonist who is just putzing around in Sonic's world. This feels like something catered to children, and I'm sure they loved it. They essentially get to put themselves in Sonic's world and be Sonic's buddy. For me, as an adult, this doesn't land at all. It's one respect where I do think all the hate for Rookie is a little overblown because guys, come on, this is for kids. They loved this shit.

This character is in an absolute nonsense game though. They start out as a character that becomes a full blown hero, but it's mostly just everyone around them being all "WOWEE YOU'RE SO GREAT! YOU GOT THIS!" Which... man, this is just not for adults. Just thinking about it all over again, they just completely lose a lot of people with this choice.

The gadget stuff is actually fun enough for what it is. But why not just give it to Tails? Literally just have Tails do all this stuff with gizmos. He's not as fast as Sonic so that tracks too.

I dunno, there's just not much here for this character but to appeal to someone who wants to be their own OC in something that can only appeal to children. But given Sonic Forces' pretty dark story tones as it is, it's also confusing why they have something marketed to children so clearly with that.

I don't need this feature and character again. I think it got enough flack we won't see it again.
