This also had some external influence at the time; Emperor Vandole from Secret of Mana has some of the most incomprehensible pixel art modeling I've ever seen. To this day I don't know if I'm looking at a really long face or a regular face and a metal chestplate. Anyway, there's this random line in the game where Krissie says 'Emperor Vandole is a DOG.' Obviously she meant 'dog' as in liar / scoundrel, but it was such a weird Wooselyism of a line and the Emperor was already so damn weird-looking that as a kid I thought 'maybe he actually is a dog, how the hell can you tell for sure?' So then Emperor Gestahl came along a couple of years later looking the way he did, and I naturally assumed that dog-faced emperors was some sort of weird Squaresoft tradition. --- Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read. https://imgur.com/eW67nT8 - Artwork by Wii_Shaker ...
