I find it weird they're not just copying FFVII Remake's combat system.

This. For all it's other faults, 7R absolutely nailed the concept of taking the classic ATB system and merging it with the more modern action-y style. It was the best of both worlds.

I actually think that, in a vacuum, how they're describing XVI sounds really good. It just doesn't sound like what I want from a mainline FF game. It sounds closer to SoP than the classics, and there's definitely room for that style of game in the FF universe.

I'm looking forward to it.

And, I'd wager, if they'd named it Final Fantasy Clive or something, rather than FFXVI, everyone would be absolutely giddy at the prospect of a FF DMC game, there'd be memes everywhere about Eidolon Kaiju battles and so on.

But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed that this is FFXVI - I know that the series evolves and changes with every iteration, but there's always been a sort of natural progression. XV may be unrecognisable compared to VI or VII, but it makes sense as a follow up to XIII. This feels like such a huge departure, and the fact that they've made it a mainline entry instead of a standalone action game carries the unfortunate implication that they don't intend to go back to the "classic" feel of mainline Final Fantasy, even in its more modernised form.

I think it sounds great, I'm really looking forward to it, but I wish it wasn't FFXVI.
