I've been fired once. It felt great, I was absolutely elated. Like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. For the longest time I had felt stuck or trapped. Despite having no college education, I had a good paying job. It made me miserable, but I knew I couldn't do better elsewhere. I got too used to the paycheck and I knew I was never going to quit. I lost all ambition and I kind of gave up on myself ever going to school and becoming someone.

But things happened. My mom passed away at a relatively young age. It made me think a lot my life and my future. It also made it very hard for me to get up in the morning and get to work on time. I started showing up late, or taking the entire day off. My superiors ignored it for months, knowing the circumstances. But eventually they gave me a verbal warning, then a written. After another month of terrible attendance I got a one-day suspension without pay. Then a three-day suspension a month later. The next step was termination but because I had such a good reputation they gave one more three-day suspension without pay. I was like, I'm done just term me already lol. So, they finally did.

I was so happy, I knew that I had no choice but to start living my life to the fullest. I packed up my belongings, and drove across the street (conveniently enough) to the local community college and got signed up for classes. That was 4 amazing, highly successful years ago. Fast forward to today, I graduated with my MBA two weeks ago and I have a kick-ass job at a place I love. So, getting fired was everything that I knew it would be and more.
