I have never had or lived with a dog that was ever aggressive in that way. This is either a breed problem or a training/abuse problem. Also, how do they know the kid wasn't in there smacking the dog over and over until it attacked back?
Ive always tried to be careful about mixed breeds unless I know what the breeds are. Even if a dog has flighty or aggressive tendencies, you should be able to work with it, so its helpful to know which genes the dogs have.

My dog is a Red Heeler mixed with a wolf and shes really nice, but we have to monitor if shes getting overstimulated. We have worked with her and if something upsets her, she goes to her crate to decompress.
