The real reason Japanese have it harder when learning English is that they can only make about 1000 different types of pronunciation, while in English there's a bajillion types of pronunciation we can do. To be honest, it would be easier for an English speaking person to learn the Japanese language, but we tend to push Spanish and French (and Latin) above other languages when it comes to second languages here in America.

Japan isn't as xenophobic as media's like to depict them. A lot of the ignorance and laws (like gay marriage still being illegal) are normally from the older generation still being in power because of the work culture. Japanese people, for the most part, are very tolerant of immigrants (or gaijins), just so long as you aren't doing something too out there like Logan Paul with the suicide forest fiasco.
