I've never seen self checkout take more than 2 minutes max since the 2000's and early 2010's when they barely worked and malfunctioned 90% of the time making them slower than normal checkouts. I think some of the people complaining about them being slower have the ones from that era. Most people know not to go to self-checkout with a ton of stuff. The reason I usually see self-checkout go fast is because the person barely has any stuff. Anyone who has a full cart always takes a while, though.
